Every Friday evening, May through August, Marine Barracks Washington, D.C. opens its parade grounds to the public (weather permitting) and stages one of the most spectacular, moving events in the Nation’s Capital.

Day 1 - Thursday

Arrive in the afternoon and begin with a tour of Mount Vernon, home of George and Martha Washington. Dinner included this evening. Check in to our local hotel. (D)

 

Day 2 - Friday

After breakfast depart with our guide for a tram tour of Arlington National Cemetery, including the Changing of the Guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldiers. An optional wreath laying ceremony can be arranged by the group. Stop at the Marine Corps Memorial (Iwo Jima statue). Continue with a stop at the Air Force Memorial and the September 11, 2001 Memorial at the Pentagon. Enjoy lunch on your own and free time to visit the Smithsonian Institution’s National Museum of American History. Depart for the National World War II Memorial. Dinner included on the waterfront in historic Georgetown. This evening (weather permitting – this is an outside event) see one of the most spectacular patriotic events in the Nation’s Capital, The U.S. Marine Corps Evening Parade at Marine Barracks, Washington, D.C. (If for any reason the event is cancelled we will substitute with a concert by the U.S. Air Force Band.) (CB, D)

 

Day 3 - Saturday

After breakfast depart for a guided tour of Capitol Hill including the new Capitol Visitor’s Center. (Optional morning tour could be the Newseum in place of Capitol Hill). Enjoy lunch on your own today on Capitol Hill. This afternoon we’ll visit the Vietnam Veterans Memorial and the Korean War Veterans Memorial before departing to drive along Embassy Row enroute to tour the Washington National Cathedral. After leaving the Cathedral we’ll stop for a photo opportunity of The White House. Continuing we’ll stop at the Jefferson Memorial and a walk through the Kennedy Center. Later we’ll see a live show on the Millennium State at the Kennedy Center. Dinner included this evening. After dinner continue with an Illuminated Monument Driving Tour of Washington, D.C. Day 4 - Sunday

Breakfast and check out. This morning we’ll tour the National Museum of the Marine Corps. Enjoy lunch on your own in the museum’s Mess Hall before departing for home. (CB)
